Ben Hopper

Photograph of Ben HopperBen is a PhD candidate and Teaching Fellow at the University of Melbourne. His PhD project investigates the relationship between intellectual property and socio-economic development.

He completed his LL.M. at Harvard Law School in 2016. Prior to that, he practised as a Senior Associate in the intellectual property and communications team at Ashurst (formerly Blake Dawson). His legal practice covered copyright advice and agreements, technology and pharmaceutical patent litigation, brand protection and IT contract negotiation, among many other things in the intellectual property and technology space. He has also worked on development projects in China and East Timor.

Ben speaks German and Mandarin, was once quite good at reading ancient Greek and Latin, and has recently taken up woodwork.
